Why Is Water Coming Out of My Steam Shower Steam Outlet?

A little water dripping from the steam outlet after a session is usually normal residual condensation. Water spurting out hot and forcefully during use is different, and almost always means the generator's water level sensor has scaled up and is overfilling the tank.

Quick diagnosis

If your steam shower is showing these symptoms:

  • A few drops of water from the outlet after the steam has finished
  • Water dripping constantly, not just after use
  • Hot water spurting from the outlet while the steam is running
  • The generator sounds like it's filling for longer than usual before spurting

Likely causes, most likely first

  1. Residual condensation. A small amount of water drips only after the session ends, and stops within a few minutes.
  2. The inlet solenoid valve passing water. Dripping is constant, including between sessions, rather than just after use.
  3. An overfilling generator from a scaled level sensor. Hot water spurts out forcefully while steam is running, not just a drip.

Likely cause

A small amount of water at the outlet after a session is just condensation draining away, and is normal. Constant dripping, including when the shower isn't in use, usually means the inlet solenoid valve is passing water and needs cleaning or replacing. Hot water spurting out forcefully during a session is a different fault: the water level sensor has scaled up and the tank keeps overfilling until it spits back out through the outlet. See our guide to a steam generator that keeps filling with water for that fault in full.

Check this first

  • Check whether the water is a light drip after use, constant, or spurting while the shower is running.
  • Note whether the outlet is genuinely hot when it spurts. This points to the tank overfilling, not condensation.
  • Check for debris around the inlet solenoid if dripping is constant.

Repair overview

Repair difficulty: Easy ... Moderate if the level sensor needs descaling

Estimated repair time: 15-45 minutes depending on the cause

How to fix it

  1. Work out whether the water is a light drip after use, a constant drip, or a forceful spurt during the session
  2. Leave it if it’s a small drip after use that clears within a few minutes, as this is normal
  3. Clean or replace the inlet solenoid valve if dripping is constant between sessions
  4. Isolate the power and descale the water level sensor probes if hot water is spurting out while the steam is running

  • Steam shower cabin
  • Hydro massage shower

When to call a professional

If hot water keeps spurting out after descaling, or the inlet solenoid valve keeps passing once replaced, isolate the power at the fused spur and get a qualified electrician or our support team to check the generator rather than keep running it.
