Owning a steam shower is a great experience, but there are some things you need to know helping to maintain it in peak condition.
In this article, we will explore some of the top questions people have about steam showers.
Do Steam Showers Cause Mould?
One of the most commonly asked questions about steam showers is whether or not they cause mould. The answer is that it depends on how you use your steam shower.
If you don’t take proper care of your steam shower and allow it to become humid, then it can lead to the growth of mould. However, if you take proper care of your steam shower, then it shouldn’t be a problem.
Here are a few tips for preventing mould in your steam shower:
– Make sure to keep the door and window open after each use to allow the steamto escape.
– Use an exhaust fan to help remove the humidity from the air.
– Wipe down the shower after each use to remove any moisture.
– Add a dehumidifier to your steam shower to help absorb moisture from the air.
According to HouseLogic, “If you have a small bathroom, opening the door may not be enough to prevent condensation and mould. You might need to install an exhaust fan that’s rated for bathrooms. Look for a fan that has at least 1 CFM (cubic feet per minute) of airflow for each square foot of bathroom space.”
You should stay in a steam shower for no more than 20 minutes at a time. This is because steam can dehydrate your body and your skin can become dry if you stay in for too long.
It is also important to make sure that you are drinking plenty of water afterwards to replenish the fluids that you have lost.
According to WebMD, “The ideal time for a steam bath is 15 to 20 minutes. The temperature should be between 100 and 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Be sure the room is well ventilated so you don’t overheat, and drink plenty of fluids to replace what you’ve lost through sweating.”
Can you De-wrinkle Clothes in a steam shower?

Let it sit for a few minutes before wiping it off with a clean cloth. You can also add a few drops of essential oil to the solution to help mask the smell.

This Mira Sport budget electric shower has plenty of pep, and it provides you with a hot refreshing shower that feels more like a luxury purchase than a budget one.
We love the three power settings option, allowing you to choose how powerful the water is hitting and how much water you are using (we reviewed the 9.8kw electric shower mdel, but you can also choose a range of watts)
This is great for slashing the price of your water bill, alongside keeping the freedom to choose the kind of power you want.
Got that one irritating family member who likes to use the kitchen sink, just as you jump in the shower? Well, we have the solution. This model automatically adjusts the desired temperature to prevent the water from jumping from icy cold to burning hot water- YOU'RE WELCOME.
When you finish using the electric shower, it uses ClearScale phased shutdown to push cold water through the electric shower - avoiding blasts of excess heat that risk burning you. Furthermore, it also helps to flush out limescale and prevent it from building up.
The instructions for the Mica Sport electric shower model are limited and a little hard to follow. But hey you don't need to be a rocket scientist to fit a electric shower right?
It comes with some handy little extras, such as a soap dish (we all know how soap can be slippery little suckers). There is also a little handle for the shower head to rest, for when you just want to stand and have a dont-bother-me-soak! (Did I just make up a new word?)
The Mira Sport electric shower boasts a modern design. The combination of style and power is a definite winner here.
The Good Stuff
4 spray options to give you plenty of variety when searching for the best pressure.
Steady temperature that helps you stay relaxed throughout your shower.
Sick of the tap being turned on and ruining your shower? Watch this model adjust the temperature automatically.
Limescale got you down? This powerful electric shower self-cleans for easy maintenance.
An affordable option that provides you with plenty of power without the hefty price tag
Variety is the name of the game with this powerful electric shower from Triton. It has five different spray patterns, allowing you to tailor your cleansing experience perfectly. You’ll be perfectly relaxed before that meeting at the office.
The three different power settings offer you more freedom when showering, giving you the choice between powerful jets and a gentle eco mode that helps you save water.
All of the controls are close together and clearly labelled for your peace of mind and to boost that simple functionality (don’t be shy, we all want simple tech in our lives). You can also choose from a good range of wattages, not just the 9.5 Kw reviewed here
Limescale is the common enemy of the home, but this electric shower certainly has you covered. A rush of cold water at the end of each use doesn’t just protect you from scalding water, it also cleanses the system to help prevent limescale buildup - genius.
No one wants limescale - you let that clog up your electric shower and other home appliances and you may find yourself paying a hefty repair bill or potentially even needing to replace the unit.
We can’t all be Tommy Walsh, which is why you might be pleased to hear that the installation for this budget electric shower is simple as anything. So much so that you could do it blindfolded… but please don’t, we don’t want the email horror stories.
You might like to know that our analysis also showed this Triton electric shower model is able to maintain a steady flow rate, so you shouldn’t see drops in water pressure or temperature fluctuations.
Accessories? The Triton keeps this minimal and practical, two things we like. You will find it has a classic arm for holding the shower head as well as a soap dish for, well, your soap and any other shower products that might squeeze on (we all know the soap dish doesn’t get used for soap).
Despite being a budget model, this Triton shower has a luxurious and modern design that will complement your bathroom decor. It’s compact and neatly organised so that you have clear access to the controls. It’s just a good looking little box of joy.
Keeps that flow rate steady to stop those morning cries of HOT! COLD!
Easy controls that let you sit back and enjoy the time spent soaking
Five spray patterns that scream luxury without the hefty price tag
Limescale? Not with this self-cleansing shower keeping your system protected
Gorgeous design that shouts modernity while remaining sleek and understated
Our Pick for Best Electric Shower for Hard Water Areas
Powerful, hot water, consistent, these are all great ways to describe what the Mira Sport Max electric shower can do for you. It’s an electric shower that provides you with everything you need to create the perfect shower - and it comes in a range of wattages. (Go big or go home I say)
The Mira Sport electric shower utilises Airboost technology (it adds airflow to your shower to push the water out quicker, very CLEVER). It boosts performance by an exceptional 30%, all without using a single drop more of water. Saving you money, whilst saving the planet. Win, Win.
Although a little on the oo-that’s-expensive-side, you can see why when you catch a glance of the premium chrome detailing to complement your ultra-modern bathroom.
If 10.8Kw is a little electric-hungry for you, go with the 9KW model saving you around £20 upfront, as well as keeping your bill down a little in the long run. (Just think about, the higher the KW, the higher the power YAY, the higher the price NAY).
The ClearScale phased shutdown is a safety feature that's worth a mention, clearing the system of hot water so that you don’t get any burning surprises during your shower.
Our tests showed that it’s able to maintain a strong and steady flow rate, which means no desired temperature fluctuations or drops in pressure while you are showering.
The system also cleans itself out after use, reducing the risk of limescale, perfect for hard water areas encountered in the UK.
If you let your electric shower shower head build up limescale, you risk reducing the pressure of the shower and the amount of water the head allows through. All in all, giving you a pretty poor shower experience.
The contemporary look will boost the aesthetics of any bathroom. Everything merges together smoothly, including the chrome controls which are very simple to use.
With three different power settings, you can easily find the perfect flow that hits the spot for you.
Worried about installation? The Mira Sport Max electric shower is super simple to install and only takes a few minutes to set up. It’s so EASY, even a child could do it. Just, we wouldn’t recommend letting them try.
The Good Stuff:
Maintains a steady temperature to stop those screams when the water goes cold.
Sleek and modern design to fit in with your ultra-trendy bathroom
Smooth controls that let you adjust the temperature and spray pattern to really make your shower your own
Airboost technology creates a pleasurable flow without wasted energy
A whole range of wattages so that you have the right power for your shower
Wattage: 10.8 (Other sizes available)
Control Type: non-thermostatic
Size: 7.5 x 21.5 x 35.8 cm
Extra Features: 4 spray pattern shower head, phased shutdown
Installation Area: Wall
The Mira Sport Max electric shower with Airboost is the ruling monarch of the electric shower world, but it’s also one of the more expensive models (seriously worth every penny).
But hey, if you don’t require the vavavoom, the previous Triton Martinique electric shower model might be better for you.
What’s Included This electric shower comes in a wide range of power options - all the way from 7kw to 10.5kw.
This makes it quite versatile, and also means that there is a version of this that can be installed in any home.
The lower power electric shower models are also very affordable, making it budget-friendly. The design is simple, but this also makes it easy to use and means that you don’t need to focus on any fancy tech.
What We Like We really liked the fact that it has four spray options. This ensured that there was variety, allowing you to change the way the hot water falls with ease.
The electric shower flow rate is really good, delivering more than acceptable levels of hot water throughout the shower. The thick controls also provide soapy hands with excellent grip, allowing for convenient temperature changes.
The water temperature also remains steady, which is a very welcome aspect. The eco-mode saves you a lot of water each shower, reducing your bills and helping the environment.
It was also easy to install, and we loved the fact that you could make use of the existing drill holes when slotting this one into place. Plus, there were several options for the electric shower pipe entry.
What We Don’t Like It’s not the most advanced electric shower in the world. It is missing a few things, like a soap tray and a low-pressure warning light. The Bristan Bliss featured in this guide is a better choice if you are looking for more tech choices, as well as more accessories.
Should You Buy it? Yes, you absolutely should. It is a good and reliable electric shower model. While the features can be a little bit basic, you know it’s going to last you a long time. It’s better than the Grohe electric shower model in some regards, and on-par with it in others.
Control Type: Non-Thermostatic
Size: 8.1 x 23.7 x 34.3 cm
Extra Features: 4 spray pattern shower head, anti-kink hose
What’s Included This particular electric shower model is comfortable to use, and it comes with three different spray settings so that you can enjoy your shower.
This electric shower includes both rainfall and a rainfall massage setting for the ultimate relaxation session after a long day at work.
The cleaning system is quick and easy, all you need to do is gently wipe the electric shower head to remove any limescale or mineral debris.
What We Like What we really liked about this high-pressure shower is the fact that it provides fantastic water flow so that you can enjoy a good shower for as long as possible.
The controls remain simple, with temperature control as well as one for the settings. There are three power options for you to choose from - low, high, and eco. The power button sits conveniently below them.
The electric shower itself maintains a really steady temperature throughout the shower, even when we left it running a little longer than the average.
The internal water guard protects you from scalding, and the flexible hose prevents potentially damaging kinks. It was also quite effortless to install, which made for a pleasant experience that took a lot less time than expected.
What We Don’t Like It only comes in two high-pressure formats. If you have low water pressure, this electric shower model is not going to work for your home, and you are better off with one of the Mira options we have.
Should You Buy it? If you have high water pressure, nothing can stop you from picking this shower up. It is a good and reliable choice. A Mira electric shower, like the Sport or the Jump, is a better choice for those who have lower water pressure though.
Our Pick for Best Electric Shower for The Perfect Water Flow
What’s Included It’s a good price, and the fact that it comes in a range of wattages means that it is quite flexible. It can deliver a decent amount of hot water to your shower as well, providing you with a lovely warm escape from the outside world.
It also comes with some handy little accessories, like a soap tray, to keep all of your toiletries neat and organised.
What We Like We really liked the fact that you get five different spray options with this electric shower. They vary quite nicely as well, so you can get the perfect flow to keep you feeling relaxed.
The controls are positioned comfortably, and thick enough that your hands won’t slide around when they are covered in shampoo. There are also three power settings, including eco mode, to choose from.
The electric shower eco mode is actually the shining star of this model, and not just because it saves you a lot of water and money.
It also allows you to have a seriously hot shower while in this form, something that a lot of other electric showers do not offer. It also manages to keep the water temperature nice and steady in all settings, giving you a stress-free showering experience.
What We Don’t Like The temperature changes by quite a lot if the tap is on, unlike the Mira Sport electric shower which corrects itself quickly, and the installation is not as easy as it could be.
Should You Buy it? It’s not a recommended high quality electric shower model. If you want a Triton shower specifically, you can go for the Seville above as it is a great electric shower.
However, you also have the Mira Sport electric shower which won’t terrify you with extreme temperature changes when someone turns the tap on.
Control Type: Non-Thermostatic
Size: 10.4 x 22.5 x 33.4 cm
Extra Features: 5 spray pattern shower head, soap dish
What’s Included There is a lot of great stuff packed into this little shower kit. It has all the looks and aesthetics of a top of the range piece, but it comes at a low price that certainly feels more affordable. It comes in three wattages, allowing you to pick one that is going to be right for your home and the pressure provided to it. It also has brilliant accessories like a spacious soap dish for easy use.
What We Like What we loved about this shower is the fact that it comes with a really nice flow rate so that you can enjoy a long and relaxing shower, as well as a steady temperature while you do so. It also has brilliant tech features that make it stand out from the rest, including a digital temperature display so you can watch the heat and also ensure it doesn’t fluctuate while you wash.
There is a low-pressure warning light, and an additional display that lets you know when the water has heated up so that you can step into a warm and welcoming shower. Its eco mode massively reduces water usage, and it is also very easy to use even with the tech features. Installation is nice and simple, with good instructions that make the process go faster.
What We Don’t Like There isn’t actually anything that we strongly dislike. Sometimes the touch controls can be a little sensitive, but this isn’t even an issue.
Should You Buy it? Yes, it is one of the best electric showers we have on offer here and sure to provide you with great evening cleanses. It’s certainly better than any of the Triton or Grohe models we have looked at here, offering superior tech and brilliant flow rates that make life so much easier.
Control Type: Non-Thermostatic
Size: 19.5 x 7 x 30.5 cm
Extra Features: 3 spray shower head, digital display, phased shutdown, soap dish, anti-kink hose
What’s Included It comes at a mid-range price, but it has a nice look with modern aesthetics that blend in nicely with your home environment. It comes in three different wattages, allowing you to choose the one that is going to work best for your home and the water pressure available. It also has nice additions, like the soap dish, to make life easier when you are washing in the shower.
What We Like It has two sets of controls that are easy to access, one for temperature and the other for power. You can choose between three settings - low, high, and eco. The eco mode is great for cutting costs and reducing your water use, but it does run a little cool and so is only really ideal for use in the summer months. The other two settings are good with a decent flow of water at all times - power showers.
The installation process is really easy, and keeping this model clean is very simple as well. It also has an anti-limescale system where the shower flushes itself with cold water supply after use to prevent any buildup inside it. The digital display also shows you when you need to clean the external filter and handset, and it has a warming button that will let you know when the shower is ready.
What We Don’t Like The eco mode only gets warm so your shower won’t be particularly nice in winter. The temperature fluctuation when someone turns the tap on can also be a little extreme.
Should You Buy it? Not really. It’s a decent model, but there are much better ones on the market. Take the Bristan Bliss above, that is a fantastic and advanced power showers that carries everything you would expect from a high-end shower with a low-end price tag.
Control Type: Non-Thermostatic
Size: 19.5 x 7 x 30.5 cm
Extra Features: 3 spray shower head, phased shutdown, soap tray
Before you hop in and buy your electric shower, there are a few things that need to be considered. Here’s a quick list of the features and specs that you should be keeping an eye on.
Kilowatt Rating. The higher the rating, the more powerful electric showers are going to be. The power levels themselves typically range between 7kw and 10.5kw. If you are looking to upgrade the power levels in your shower, there are a few things you need to consider first.
Water pressure. This should be a minimum of 1 bar for a 7kw shower, and 1.5 bar for a 10.5kw shower. Remember that the pressure is likely to drop in the winter when the cold water supply takes longer to heat up.
Electrics. Your fuse box needs to be able to handle the power. A 32A fuse is recommended for 7kw, and a 45A fuse for 10.5kw powerful electric showers. If the fuse is incorrect, you can expect the shower to trip out frequently as the fuse box won’t be able to cope with your power showers.
Cable. The electric cable needs to be big enough. A 6mm cable is recommended for a 7kw shower, and 10mm for a 10.5kw model. There are some professionals who use a 10mm for all fittings because it adds a layer of safety and also means there is less work if you want a more powerful shower later.
Extra Tech. Some electric showers have added tech to make life easier. There are things like audio alerts for those who are visually impaired, and LCD screens that have temperature displays so you can keep an eye on how hot or cold the shower is.
Limescale Protection. This is a handy feature to have if you live in a hard water area and want to take some of the pressure off your electric showers shower head. Alternatively, you can also invest in a water softener for your home.
Best Electric Shower Brands
Here are the best electric shower brands that you can buy, and a little more information about each of them.
Triton. Aptly named after the son of Poseidon, and a god of the sea, Triton electric showers is a brand that is dedicated to helping you achieve bathing bliss. Founded in a Warwickshire garage in 1975, it’s certainly come a long way since then as one of the UK’s leading shower brands.
Mira. Founded in 2001, it is one of the newer shower brands in the UK. Hailing from idyllic Gloucestershire, this little company climbed its way up quickly - fast becoming one of the top shower choices for UK homeowners across the country.
Bristan. Named after founders, Brian and Stan, this company was formed in 1977. It is hailed as one of the most user-friendly shower brands to use, especially since so many of its models have multiple installation angles to make life easier.
Grohe. The oldest leading shower brand, this company was founded back in 1936. With a strong reputation dating back decades, you can’t go wrong with one of these electric showers. Made for luxury and practicality, you’ll soon understand why Grohe is such a popular name.
How Much Does it Cost to Run an Electric Shower
The running costs of an electric shower can vary according to your energy provider, but on average you can expect to spend around 40p for ten minutes of shower time. If you have a pumped electric shower, you can expect this figure to be slightly higher.
The running costs of an electric shower are more expensive than the traditional forms, but they also heat up faster and often provide better pressure.
Additionally, electric showers are easy to install and tend to require less maintenance. As long as you aren’t spending an age in the shower every day, you shouldn’t notice it much on your bill.
Hopefully, you have found our best electric shower guide useful and it has been able to help you decide which model suits your needs. It’s not an easy choice considering all the great brands we have listed for you today, but there is a favourite for us.
The Mira Sport Max is our top pick out of all of these electric showers models. It provides excellent tech, brilliant flow rates, and also allows you to enjoy a relaxing shower without worrying about fluctuating temperatures.
The digital display is accurate and helpful, and there are no real cons to it. While most of the models here are recommended buys, we strongly suggest checking this one out.

Build quality, functionality and of course features.
Below you will see the shower mixers that ticked all the boxes, ultimately it was the Hansgrohe Exostat 1001 CL that earned our Editor’s Choice award as it scored highly in all the areas we look for when choosing the best shower mixer.
And if our editors and budget pick are not for you? Don’t worry, we’ve picked an assortment of mixer showers to suit all budgets and requirements.
You will have to go a long way to beat the Hansgrohe Ecostat thermostatic mixer shower for quality and value for money, with over £10,000 worth a monthly sales revenue on Amazon alone, you know you are in good hands with this sleek thermostatic bar mixer. The reviews alone paint the picture of this versatile mixer.
A thermostatic unit that promises to provide constant water temperature and volume throughout its lifetime, fitted with a temperature safety lock at 40 degrees, a perfect choice if you have any young kids that need protection from any accidental scalding.
For the eco-conscious, the Ecostop feature reduces water flow consumption down to 10 litres per minute (from around 15 litres/minute) Every penny saved counts as they say.
Simple sleek design from a top brand, and made to last which they back up with their 5-year warranty
If you’re on a smaller budget, but still looking for a quality mixer, our next pick might be for you.
Thermostat lock – The unit features a safety lock set at 40 degrees Celsius. It automatically locks at that temperature, ensuring that your family is protected against scalding-hot water and no cold water shocks over the head either.
Ecostop button – This feature limits water consumption to 10 litres per minute.
Bath-tub end mountable – You can fit this unit onto your bath rim, provided that you purchase pillar unions, which you can also purchase from the supplier.
Controls are easy to turn
Gradual and safe temperature change from hot to cold and vice versa
Thermostatic Mixer Shower
Package weight and dimensions – 10 x 29.6 x 6.8 cm; 2.36 Kilograms
Maximum Water pressure – 10 bar (minimum = 1 bar)
Finish – Polished

This Hansgrohe Ecostat scores the highest for environmental sensitivity and protection.
The Bristan H0920 FRENZY (another Bristan unit is featured later) is the master of providing cool technology that ensures users are perfectly safe from getting burned. This is the unit we found to have the ultimate scalding-free protection.
There is a flexibility feature where, whatever pressure system you have, the unit can just perfectly blend in. Good for both low-pressure and high-pressure systems.
Easy installation is a strong point for this unit, though some customers reported a weird noise and loose thermostat fitting after a short period of use. This is the only reason this model doesn’t make top spot.
However, the manufacturer claims that they perform over 20,000 cycles of rigorous test on their products. Sad thing is, we have no way of confirming the claim.
Cool touch technology – There is no way you will ever touch a hot valve with this unit. The technology makes cool water surround hot water during use, and there is a separate set of controls for water flow and temperature.
Wall-fixing kit supplied – One of this unit’s strongest selling points is the installation kit that comes with it. Easy installation is guaranteed.
Aesthetics – The unit comes in a sleek shiny, chrome-plated finish.
Non-Thermostatic Mixer shower Bar
Package weight and dimensions – Shower valve only; 1.75 kilograms
Maximum water pressure – suitable for combi boiler
Compared to its brother the Ecostat featured above, this Hansgrohe Focus unit comes with a water flow rate of 22 litres per minute. In case you’re looking for a higher water flow rate but still with high-pressure and from the same brand, this is it.
However, the Focus does not come with a thermostat unlike the Ecostat. So, this unit is a mechanical mixer. Despite that, the temperature control for this unit is good and it regulates the temperature easily.
On the side of functionality, this is a unit you can attach above your bathtub or on the wall in your shower. A simple no frills wall mounted shower mixer
Handle – Comes with one lever that controls both water flow and temperature
Installation – A well-made product and easy to install. Great value for money.
Aesthetics – Attractive, modern design
Standard Lever Non-Thermostatic Mixer
Package weight and dimensions – 25 x 20.3 x 16.1 cm; 1.99 Kilograms
Maximum water pressure – 10 bar (minimum = 1 bar)
Finish – Polished

Plug Profile/Installation – Wall mount
This chrome-made unit comes with an affordable pricing, high water flow rate, easy installation system and easy temperature control.
The GROHE BauEdge (we feature another Grohe unit below) is a German-manufactured single-lever shower mixer that also comes with a reasonable price tag, but it stands out the most in the aspect of ease of cleaning. Thanks to its Starlight feature.
The Starlight features a chrome coating, which provides a bright surface that resists scratches and stains while maintaining its original shine. This unit only needs wiping with a dry cloth for maintenance.
This Grohe unit also boasts of its SilkMove feature. With this feature, the unit allows for the smoothest and the most precise lever drive.
Ease of cleaning and low maintenance – A piece of dry cloth is all you need to keep it shiny, clean, stain-free, and scratch-free.
Pocket-friendly – One of the cheapest options in the market
SilkMove experience – Sturdy construction with a handle that turns slickly when adjusting the temperature or when switching from bath to shower
Standard Lever Non-Thermostatic Mixer
Package weight and dimensions – 16 x 20 x 12 cm; 1.44 Kilograms
Maximum water pressure – 1 to 5 bar
Finish – Chrome
Material – Ceramic
Plug Profile/Installation – Wall mount
With its shiny finish and high resistance to stain and scratches, cleaning and maintaining the BauEdge definitely becomes the most time-efficient and easiest of tasks to do.
At a little over twice the price of its brother Bristan FRENZY, the Bristan AR3 SHCVO thermostatic valve is made for a range of cavity sizes (45 – 75 mm) and water supply temperature. The coldest that it can supply is 5 degrees Celsius and the hottest 80 degrees Celsius.
The unit comes with a flow rate of only 8 litres per minute at 0.2 bar. True enough, you can significantly lower your water bill with this unit, but just in case the need comes, you can switch to a higher-pressure rate of 5 bar for flexibility.
The look is modern and sophisticated. The slight downside is a lot of its inside is plastic and ceramic with chrome material on the plate.
Wide range of cavity for flexibility
Wide range of temperature for water supply
Aesthetics – Generally very good looking
Concealed Thermostatic Mixer Valve
Package weight and dimensions – 30.4 x 20.19 x 16.79 cm; 1 Kilogram
Maximum water pressure – 5 bar (minimum working pressure = 0.2 bar)
Finish – Polished
Material – Brass, ceramic
Plug Profile/Installation – Wall mount
Best attribute: Fits most mounting cavities
The wide range of cavity sizes that this unit fits makes it the best option to choose for people with different shower systems and sizes in their home or business.
Coming in with a good build quality and top-notch performance is this Grohe unit. While it comes with a different fixing approach to the usual thermostatic units, this model is comparatively easier to mount in place, and when it is mounted, it will give your shower setup that stunning and crisp feel.
Reinforcing the easy fit installation is the presence of two outlets – one at the bottom and one at the top. You can use either of the two to connect to your shower outlet. One of them has a blanking screw cap. Just swap it over and you can use the other outlet that suits your configuration.
This Grohe unit works for both low and high pressure and can work for a combi boiler. This is also a unit that is easy to clean and is scratch-resistant.
Installation – Easy to install and comes with a different mounting approach
Finish – Deep-layered chrome surface creates a mirror-like sheen
Suitable for all plumbing requirements
Thermostatic Concealed Shower Mixer

Maximum water pressure – 5 bar (minimum = 0.1 bar)
Finish – Polished
Material – Copper, nickel and chrome
Plug Profile/Installation – Single-hole, deck mount
This is a unit that comes with superb thermostatic control balancing hot and cold water temperature in no time. This is why many users say that any manual manipulation or adjustment is not necessary with this model.
Accommodating a range of hot- and cold-inlet distance of 140 mm to 170 mm, this unit is comparably easy to install. Just connect the left water inlet and the right.
For a budget model this ticks nearly all the boxes, but not to be compared the higher build quality brans featured above.
Nonetheless, this mixer is easy to install and comes with an impressive design.
Aesthetics and construction – Well-designed and slim
Temperature – Quick balancing of hot and cold water temperature
Installation – Accommodates a wide range of inlet distance

The Solepearl comes with a technology that automatically balances temperature and maintains desirable temperature level in a quick time.
ShowerSelect is probably the most expensive unit from Hansgrohe and one of the priciest models available in the market, but for good reason. Designed for high-pressure shower systems, it comes with a great an awesome design, is easy to use, and cleans well with just cloth and water.
In addition, it controls temperature well and the 2 outlets which is ideal if you want an overhead monsoon shower and a hand shower. Simply select the push button and it will turn the 2 outlets on and off.
This is a wall-concealed system, so the base unit should be hidden in the wall behind the plaster. The appearance is tidy and produces a timeless ambience in the shower room.
Installation – Concealed installation, helping create a neat and uncluttered setup
Scald safe – Comes with a safety stop at 40 degrees Celsius
Accessories – Comes with handle, mixing unit, mounting rail, and hand shower

Before rushing into this purchase, take a couple of minutes to consider your options and all of the factors associated with each. Here is a breakdown of the most important factors.
Price – While many consumers will have a preference regarding how much to spend, price should not be the only judging factor. Instead, you should also consider the factors below.
Design – Although all of these showers serve the same purpose, their designs can be diverse. Do you want the valve surface mounted, or concealed behind a wall.
Pressure Controls – When choosing a mixer valve, you should consider whether or not you want to be able to control the pressure of your water (for example to reduce water usage) Some of these offer a water flow rate controller, but this isn’t available with all.
Temperature Controls – Each of these valves will give you the ability to adjust the water’s temperature, but they’ll do so differently. Some will only come with a single temperature lever that you simply lift and turn to the desired temperature, whilst better quality and higher priced models will have a thermostatic cartridge fitted to control the temperature (ideal if you have kids and need to avoid accidental scalding)
Installation Difficulty When choosing the best mixer valve for your shower, you’ll need to make sure to consider your skill level. Are you capable of installing a highly complex valve? If not, you might want to opt for one that is much easier to install or hire a professional.
Low-pressure system If you have a gravity fed system, rather than the likes of a combi boiler, you will be limited to models that require a low water flow rate. Most thermostatic mixer valves require higher levels of pressure and therefore will require a shower pump in line, more details on pumps next.
Negative/Positive Head Pump – (You can skip this if you have a combi boiler/pressurised boiler) Check for suitability with the head pump. A negative head pump is used in the case where the pump is located, either at the level or below the cold water tank.
Otherwise, the pump is located above the cold water tank and the head pump is classified as negative.
In the products above, the Hansgrohe ShowerSelect requires a negative head pump to match and on the condition that you are running a water pump to supply water to your shower.
People have different priorities, but whatever you have in your head, still the most important factor to consider is safety especially if you have young kids using the shower. The mixer must offer protection to the family
In the end, as to functionality, we have chosen the Ecostat to be the ultimate winner here. It is environment-friendly despite its capacity to fit high-pressure systems. Its ability to modify water temperature gradually is also a big plus for us. If you have any questions or would maybe like to share your first hand experience with these or other mixer valves, please leave us a comment below.
The thing is, it can be really hard to estimate how much something is going to cost when the internet is packed with conflicting information.
It’s good to have a rough idea of how much its going to cost to install an electric shower, so that you can put it aside in advance.
To make life a little easier for you, we decided to put together this ultimate guide to shower installation pricing, where to find the person for the job, and the few cases where you might not need anyone at all. You can finally be financially prepared for your upcoming shower installation.
This is an important question, and a common one when people are searching for a professional to install their electric shower. The best option is to find someone who is a member of one of the self-certification schemes that we have listed below:
British Standards Institution
NICEIC Certification Services
You can find skilled and competent workers that meet these standards from your local council’s building control.
Additionally, before they undertake any work, it is essential that they agree to ensure that the installation complies with building regulations and that they take full responsibility for this.
They must also provide you with the BS7671 certificate. This will need to be produced should you want to sell your home so that you can prove that any and all electrical work was carried out safely.
Otherwise, you will need someone to come and check over the work for an additional fee, and you will be liable for any changes that need to be made.
Why Go with a Professional?
The reason you go with a professional is that they are qualified and certified to install the electrical part of the shower. This is a legal requirement, and if you decide to forgo the electrician part, you at least need the local building authorities to come and inspect it.
This tends to have a set fee (this really depends on your local council), and you will need to have any repairs fixed by a certified professional or checked again. If it goes right, you have saved a little cash, but if it goes wrong it could end up being way more expensive.
Your chosen professional will also be Part P certified, and this is a particular qualification that can be held by both plumbers and electricians - hence you can get someone who is able to perform both parts of the job.
Without this certification, they cannot install an electric shower. There are some cases where the Part P is not required, which we go into detail about later.
Replacement vs New Fitting
There is a pretty big difference between these two installations. If you are just replacing an old shower, all the cables, electrics, and piping are already in place. Therefore, the job is much simpler and tends to involve removing the old unit and then installing the new one.
If you are looking for an entirely new fitting, you can expect higher costs because it will not have any existing wiring or cabling, and this needs to be installed by a professional.
Therefore, the material costs will be higher alongside the labour costs because the work will take longer. The next section shows a good approximate breakdown of what to expect.
A Breakdown of What to Expect
We forget that the installers are often multi-skilled as both plumbers and electricians for this particular job (otherwise, it would certainly cost you more).
While the price can vary according to who you decide to work with, this is a good breakdown of the kind of price you can expect to pay, depending on the work that has been done.
Replacing the existing shower with a similar unit with no need for a cable upgrade.
Same as above, but with the need for a cable upgrade (the cost next is in addition to the above).
Installing a new electric shower with no existing wiring or cabling.
Replacing a pumped electric shower.
What about power showers? I know this guide is all about the electric shower process, but as power showers are up there as one of the most popular types, it is good to have the rough price breakdown here. It’s good for comparison, and also helps you decide which one you want.
Installation of a new power shower.
Replacing an existing power shower.
Generally speaking, you will find that a power shower costs double the price of a top rated electric shower to run. For example, an electric shower would cost around 20p for ten minutes, and a power shower would come in at double that - 40p. There are pros and cons to each, but that’s for a different guide and another day.
Ok, I hear you, but why are the materials so expensive? If you buy the new shower yourself, you will be taking money off your bill. Materials usually refer to the new unit being purchased, and sometimes they may also need to add new cabling and piping.
Picking up your own unit means you have the opportunity to price match and find something that suits you.
Additionally, a new shower unit can cost anywhere between £50 (not recommended to spend this little) and upwards of £300.
It really depends on what your budget is like and how much you are willing to spend on your new unit. If you aren’t too bothered about price matching, just get it added to your bill.
Do You Need an Electrician for a Replacement Shower?
This is an interesting one. As mentioned already, you need an electrician (or a plumber that is Part P certified) to install and check any new cables or spurs.
However, if you are switching your old electric shower for one that is the same in terms of power level and does not need new cables, you don’t actually need a plumber or an electrician to come and do the work.
The important thing to remember here is that the new shower must have the same power level as the old one, and nothing can be done to the existing cables.
If any cable work is required, or the shower is more powerful, you will need to call a certified professional out. When you’re swapping for like though, you could save money by just doing it yourself.
Jumped in for your morning shower only to find the showerhead is blocked and water is squirting out of everywhere but the nozzles.
Frustrating, right? We’ve all been there, we feel your pain.
You want a handheld showerhead that means business, the best on the market and at a great price. We hear you, and we’ve got you covered.
To help you achieve your shower dreams, we have spent over 20 hours testing, reviewing, and analysing nearly 30 models of showerhead that are popular on the UK market. This includes models from top brands such as Triton and Grohe.
The reason? We want you to find a showerhead that delivers the power you want and also fits in with your budget.
In the end, Hansgrohe stole the show with the Raindance Select E 120. It’s a model we fully back without question, and that you’ll love.
Not sure you like our editor’s pick? There’s no pressure (hehehe), we have a whole load of other options for you to choose from.
Big, bold, versatile, the Raindance Select is one of the best showerheads that Hansgrohe has developed.
Designed to be a rain showerhead, it provides a light and airy flow that feels more like a tropical forest than your bathroom (think of those herbal essences commercials).
Minimum Pressure: 1 bar (high pressure only)
Spray Modes: 3
Material: Chrome ABS
Designed for high-pressure showers, it has a minimum bar requirement of one and a maximum of six. This ensures you always have a great flow rate and enough water to make your shower worthwhile.
It benefits from three spray settings, which includes Rain, RainAir, and WhirlAir. These allow you to choose the intensity of the spray for a truly tailored experience. As an example, the RainAir option feels just like standing in gentle rainfall or under some tropical waterfall.
The controls are simple, no more fiddling for the right button when all you want to do is relax (that’s how the last showerhead broke, right? You can tell us). Slide your fingers along the base of the head and you’ll find the controls are right there, easy to find, and need a gentle touch.
Yeah, it can be a little pricey. We know it’s not the cheapest showerhead out there, but it is one of the best and most effective. Not to mention it has a stunning chrome finish that will dazzle any visitor to your bathroom. Take that mother-in-law…...who has the nicest home now?
If limescale is a common issue for you (#SickOfHardWater), this showerhead has the solution you need. The innovative Quick Clean system means that a simple wipe down with a cloth after use is all you need to keep those pesky shower-damaging-minerals at bay.

Controls that are right at your fingertips for a smooth transition between settings
Made for high-pressure showers to deliver the best experience of your life

Not sure this showerhead has quite grabbed you? We get it, not everyone is going to be delighted and awed by our top choice. Why not check out our runner up from Grohe below? It might just be able to wash away the pain (I’m hilarious).
Q: How heavy is the shower head?
A: The shower head weighs 305g so very lightweight to use in the shower.
What we really love is how unique the design of this showerhead is. Spanning an impressive 120mm, it has a hole in the centre for better water distribution while you shower.
Furthermore, it’s been carefully and expertly engineered to change the way you see your shower.
The range of colours definitely adds a bit of spice to your options, allowing you full customisation so that you can create a shower that really expresses your personal tastes and style. It adds a little oo-la-la to the atmosphere if you will.
Minimum Pressure: 1 bar (high pressure only)
Spray Modes: 3
Material: Chrome ABS
Grohe has designed this shower for homes with high-pressure, with a minimum of one bar requirement and a maximum of six bar (think combi-boiler, vented system).
This is a downside for those with low water pressure, such as gravity fed systems(unless you add a shower pump)
It has two relaxing spray settings, allowing you to choose a light rainfall that will take you to another world (who needs a holiday when you have a rainfall shower right?) or something more heavy-duty to wash away the pain and grime of the day.
Leading on from this, the controls are found at the base of the head and can be altered with the quick flick of a switch. It’s effortless and easy so that you don’t have to spend time faffing with thing-a-ma-jigs and can get on with the most important task - chilling out.
We know that limescale is a massive pain in the behind, but the easy cleaning system from Grohe means that you just need to wipe the head after use and limescale buildup is prevented. Simple, right? We promise it’s not too good to be true either.
Comes in a range of snazzy colours so you can find the perfect fit for your home

Material: Chrome ABS
With an incredible six different spray settings to choose from, you really are spoiled for choice.
These settings include a gentle mist, power massage, regular massage, and several mist and spray combinations that you can play with at your leisure.
The controls? A simple button that has been rigorously tested and can be pressed over a million times without issue (that’s dedication, right?)
Suited to homes with high-pressure, it requires a minimum of one bar to work and a maximum of six. After all, you want to be able to take advantage of that gentle massage, right? The ergonomic square design provides perfect coverage across your whole body, and we mean it.
The nozzles are nicely spaced for your comfort, but also made from silicone to help prevent limescale and make them easy to clean. The days of heavy maintenance are over, and you can enjoy a quick wipe-and-go action when you invest in this square showerhead.
This showerhead is so good that you can even use it to clean the toilet. Although, we’re not sure we would recommend that. If anything, it goes to show that it has a pretty long hose though, and it’s lightweight enough that you can hold it effortlessly with one hand.
Funky square design that really changes up the aesthetics of your shower
Six spray settings that really leave you spoiled for choice
Easy controls that require a single hand for smooth and satisfying adjustment
A massage mode that will make you never want to leave the shower again

Taking a shower can be a magical thing. This is a time when you get to relax and just soak up the hot water.
However, if you do not have the right showerhead, you might not get as much pleasure.
With that being said, there are so many different showerheads on the market, how do you know a good one, when you see it? Well, take a look at the Triton 5 Position Showerhead.
The best thing about this showerhead is that it is compatible with just about every type of shower including mixer showers, electric showers, and a bath/shower mixture.
The showerhead offers 5 different spray patterns to choose from. You can choose one to suit the mood you are in.
You have the option of choosing from blast, spray, drench, jet, and rain.
Maintenance is a simple task with this product, because it is constructed of plastic that reduces the chances of lime scale build up. On top of all of this upon the purchase of this product you will receive a 1-year parts and labor warranty.

Q: What is the water flow rate of this shower head?
A:we have a Triton Elec shower with winter (2 heater bands running) and summer (1 Heater band running) you adjust the flow rate to get the right water temp. On all settings we get a good shower.
