A steam shower that produces no steam at all is usually a water problem rather than a heat problem … either the supply isn't reaching the generator, or an inlet or drain solenoid has stuck. A failed heating element or control board is less common, but worth ruling out with the checks below before you order a part.
Applies to: steam showers
If your steam shower is not producing steam, the most common cause is a fault with the water inlet solenoid valve inside the steam generator. When this valve fails, the generator cannot fill with water properly, which means it cannot heat water and produce steam.
This problem is common in Insignia, Vidalux, Aqualuso and Lisna Waters steam shower cabins and shower pods. In many cases the shower appears to operate normally, but the steam function activates without producing steam.
In older units or areas with hard water, the issue can also be caused by limescale build-up inside the steam generator or steam pipe, which restricts water flow or blocks steam from reaching the shower cabin.
Quick diagnosis
If your steam shower is showing these symptoms:
- No steam at all when you start a cycle
- The generator stays silent, or you can't hear it filling with water
- The generator runs or clicks but nothing comes through the steam outlet
- The control panel shows the cycle running, but there's still no steam after several minutes
Likely causes, most likely first
- No water reaching the generator. Check the isolation valve behind or under the cabin is fully open. If the generator is silent and dry rather than gurgling, this is usually why.
- Water inlet solenoid stuck or clogged. The generator won’t fill at all even with the water supply on. You’ll often hear a faint click with no water flow behind it.
- Drain solenoid stuck open. If the generator fills but the tank empties itself again straight away, the drain solenoid may be stuck open, so the tank never holds enough water to produce steam.
- Heating element failed completely. If the tank fills and holds water but you still get no steam at all, the element itself may have failed and needs replacing.
- Control board fault. If everything else checks out and the generator still won’t run a cycle, the board may have failed. Isolate the power and get it checked rather than keep guessing.
Likely cause
In most cases the generator either isn't getting water at all, because the supply is off or an inlet solenoid has clogged, or it's getting water but losing it straight back out through a stuck drain solenoid. A failed heating element or control board fault are less common causes of a total absence of steam, which is why it's worth working through the free checks before ordering a part.
Check this first
- Confirm the water supply to the cabin is turned on and the isolation valve is fully open
- Check the isolator switch or RCD for the shower hasn’t tripped
- If the unit has never been descaled and you’re on hard water, run a descale cycle before anything else
- Leave the unit powered off for five minutes, then try again … this clears some control board resets
Which part fits your cabin
| Brand | Model / range | Part | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vidalux | Essence 800, Essence 900, Essence 1000 | Water Inlet Solenoid Fitting (SPS 049) | Checked against Vidalux’s own product records |
| Vidalux | Essence 800, Essence 900, Essence 1000 | Water Outlet / Drain Fitting (SPS 267) | Checked against Vidalux’s own product records |
This is a floor, not a full list … these fittings are generator-brand matched (TR/MK/Eago/Ariel Platinum), so they cover far more cabins than the one Vidalux range we can confirm by name today (Essence 800/900/1000). No Insignia-confirmed model list exists yet for these two parts, so none is shown.
How to identify your part
The inlet solenoid, drain solenoid and heating element are matched to your steam generator, not to your shower cabin’s brand. Check the control panel or the generator casing for a model code (TR, MK, or similar) before ordering.
- Our inlet and drain solenoid fittings run on 12V DC and fit generators from the TR, MK, Eago and Ariel Platinum families.
- The 3kW heating element is a direct replacement for TR and MK generators: a stainless steel element 85mm long, on a fixing plate 50mm wide by 62mm high, with four connections and fixing centres of 50mm (vertical) by 36mm (horizontal).
Parts that fix this problem
In most cases, the issue will be caused by a fault within the steam generator itself. The generator contains a water solenoid valve and heating system responsible for producing steam.
Replacing the steam generator or the failed Solenoid/Heating Element component usually resolves the problem.

How to fix it
- Isolate the power at the switch or RCD before touching anything electrical.
- Check the water supply is on and the isolation valve is fully open.
- Restore power and run a fresh cycle to confirm whether the generator fills with water in the first minute or so.
- If it isn’t filling, isolate the power again, turn off the water and let the generator cool, then check the inlet solenoid for limescale or debris.
- If it fills but empties itself again straight away, isolate the power and check the drain solenoid isn’t stuck open.
- If the tank fills and holds water but you still get no steam at all, the heating element or control board may need replacing … isolate the power and bring in a qualified electrician for this step.

When to call a professional
Anything beyond a plug-in solenoid or drain fitting swap means opening a mains-powered generator. If the heating element, control board or internal wiring is involved, isolate the power and call a qualified electrician … don't work inside a live generator casing.
