Thermostatic Cartridges Type 6, 8 & 12
Water running lukewarm, suddenly too hot, or swinging between the two usually means the thermostatic cartridge behind the temperature dial has failed. Cartridges are not universal. For Type 6, 8 and 12, knowing your cabin’s make won’t tell you which one you have, so take yours out and compare before you order. We also stock cartridges made for Insignia, Vidalux, Aqualusso and Eago cabins. Can’t tell yours apart? Send us a photo.

How to identify your cartridge
- Fixing: push-fit cartridges are held by a grub screw (Type 6, CS1 and the push-fit Type 12). Threaded ones screw in (Type 8 and the threaded Type 12).
- Overall length: Type 6 is 92mm, Type 8 is 82mm and the Eago Ariel Platinum is 90mm. The Type 12 dimensions are on its product drawing.
Symptoms and likely causes
Temperature swinging hot and cold: see why the water temperature fluctuates. A cartridge that keeps failing points to unbalanced hot and cold pressures.
Stuck on hot or cold, or never properly hot: see water stuck on hot or cold.
A stiff temperature dial: see a stiff control knob.

Fitting tip
On Vidalux cabins, look behind the shower before you start. The bottom dial may have a small screw in the valve body holding the cartridge in. Take it out first, and refit it once the new cartridge is in.
When to call a professional
Isolate the water first. The cartridge comes out from inside the cabin (on Vidalux, check behind first), so it’s a straightforward swap. Our cartridge replacement guide walks you through it. If the valve body behind the panel is leaking, or your hot and cold pressures need balancing, call a plumber.
Frequently asked questions
Why has my cartridge failed?
Limescale from hard water is the usual cause. Age and grit from the pipework are the others.
Should I choose a standard or a Vernet cartridge?
Either. The Vernet is a branded wax sensor cartridge, sold as a direct alternative to the standard Type 6 or Type 8, so both fit the same valves.
What does the temperature safety lock do?
It holds the temperature at 38°C unless you press the button on the knob to override it, which helps prevent scalding for children or older people. It fits our Type 6, 8 and 12, Vernet and CS1 cartridges.
Got the old one out? Photograph it end to end against a ruler, showing both ends and how it fixed in, and we’ll match it.
