A door that won't seal is almost always down to alignment rather than a faulty part … the frame, the door itself or the magnetic seals sitting slightly out of true. On steam models the same gap that lets water through will also let steam escape during a session.
Applies to: shower cabins and steam showers
If your shower cabin door isn’t sealing properly, it’s almost always down to alignment or installation rather than a fault with the door itself.
Even a small misalignment of a few millimetres can stop the magnetic seals from meeting correctly, which leads to gaps, leaks, or doors that don’t close properly. The good news is that in most cases, this is a straightforward issue to adjust and resolve.
Quick diagnosis
If your shower cabin is showing these symptoms:
- Door magnets not touching fully when closed
- Visible gap between doors when closed
- Water leaking from door edges
- Steam escaping around the door during a steam session
- Door feels slightly out of line, or the cabin feels twisted or not square
Likely causes, most likely first
- Frame not level. If the tray or base is even slightly uneven, it twists the whole frame, and the doors can’t line up correctly however good the seals are.
- Door alignment. On sliding doors, the rollers may not be seated correctly in the runners or need adjusting. On pivot doors, the hinges can shift slightly over time or during installation, throwing the glass out of position.
- Magnetic seals not lining up. If the seals are twisted, warped or fitted slightly out of position, they won’t create a proper contact even with a level frame.
- Roof not fitted or secured. The roof helps stabilise the frame; without it properly in place, the cabin can flex slightly, which throws door alignment out.
- Steam escaping through an otherwise-sealing door. Where the seals look fine and the frame checks out level, a persistent steam leak (rather than a water leak) around the door usually means the seal material itself has hardened or worn and needs replacing rather than adjusting.
Likely cause
The most common cause of a shower cabin door not sealing properly is that the base or frame isn't perfectly level, which twists the whole structure just enough to stop the doors lining up. Door alignment is the next most common factor … sliding rollers out of the runner, or pivot hinges that have shifted. Magnetic seals themselves are rarely at fault, but if they've been fitted twisted or distorted during installation, they won't meet correctly even on a level frame. On steam models specifically, a door that looks like it's sealing for water can still let steam past if the seal material has hardened with age, since steam finds a smaller gap than water does.
Check this first
- Close the doors slowly and check exactly where the gap opens up … that tells you whether it’s the frame, the door or the seal.
- Check the tray is level, using a spirit level if you have one, before adjusting anything else.
- Look at the magnetic seals side-on to see if they’re sitting straight or twisted.
Which part fits your cabin
| Brand | Model / range | Part | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Insignia | Diamond, ECO, ES, GT, INS, Kids, Monochrome, Platinum and Premium range cabins | Magnetic Shower Door Seals | Listed on Insignia’s own parts pages |
| Vidalux | SS (Steam), Essence and Essence Classic ranges | Magnetic Shower Door Seals | Checked against Vidalux’s own product records |
These lists are a floor, not the full range … measure your own seal length to confirm the fit regardless of model.
How to identify your part
Magnetic door seals are sold as a matched pair, 1800mm long, for 4–6mm glass … measure the full length of the existing seal strip and check your glass thickness before ordering rather than guessing from the model name.
Parts that fix this problem
This issue is rarely caused by faulty parts. In most cases, it can be resolved through adjustment rather than replacement.
If seals are damaged or heavily worn, they may need replacing, but this is less common than alignment-related issues.

How to fix it
- Start by checking that the shower tray is level. If needed, adjust the legs underneath the tray so that the frame sits square and all feet are firmly in contact with the floor.
- Check the door alignment. For sliding doors, ensure the rollers are correctly seated in the runners and adjust them if necessary. For pivot doors, loosen the hinge screws slightly, reposition the glass, and retighten.
- Inspect the magnetic seals. Make sure they’re sitting straight and meeting evenly when the doors close. If they appear twisted or warped, gently reshape them so they sit flat.
- If your cabin has a roof, ensure it is properly installed and secured, as this adds structural stability and helps keep everything aligned.
- Close the doors slowly and check where the gap is. Small adjustments to alignment will usually resolve it; if steam still escapes from an otherwise well-aligned door, replace the seal itself rather than continuing to adjust it.

When to call a professional
If the frame itself has come out of square, not just the doors, or you're not confident adjusting the roof or hinges, get the fitter or installer back to true it up rather than forcing the panels.
